The first time I picked up one of these natural edge bowls I was in awe.  They are truly stunning.  Kate's work is a reflection of her spirit as much as it is her level of skill. Her studio, nestled in the hills of Occidental, California is surrounded by the natural beauty of the landscape and indigenous trees that inspire her.  Kate only uses reclaimed and what she calls, "rescued" wood, native to the area near her home.  Meant to be passed down for generations, Kate's work brings the beauty of nature into your home. These are works of art, but Kate would be disapointed if you didn't use them in your daily life to make a salad or store your fruit.

Kate Elvin is native to California's coastal foothills...wandering from Big Sur to West Sonoma Country where she now lives in the forest of Occidental.  Working with locally salvaged wood, Kate hopes to impart an organic sense of the tree, the process of artful manipulation (tools marks are like brush stroke), as well as a nice fit in the hand & home. Kate's works are true objects of art and practical function, handcrafted from rescued wood.  Starting with a rough log and a chainsaw, Kate personally crafts each piece on a wood lathe.
